What I wish I knew when I took my first steps in Project Management
5 lessons that shaped me as a professional / #5 is my FAV
When I started my journey in project management, I was eager, full of energy, and… clueless about what I was really signing up for.
If I could go back and talk to my younger self, here’s what I would say and what I hope helps you if you’re just starting out too.
You don’t need to know everything.
I used to feel like I had to have all the answers at all times. But the truth is, that project management is more about asking the right questions than knowing all the answers.Relationships matter more than tools.
Sure, Gantt charts and roadmaps are great, but building trust with your team and stakeholders is what keeps projects moving forward.Scope creep is real, and it’s okay to push back.
Saying “no” or renegotiating expectations doesn’t make you a bad PM- it makes you an effective one.Your career will evolve embrace It.
The job you start with isn’t the job you’ll have forever. Stay curious and open to learning, and your role will grow with you.Your personality Is your superpower. ❤️
Early on, I thought I had to fit into a specific mold to succeed as a PM -extroverted, assertive, or "by the book."But I’ve learned that my introversion, empathy, and curiosity are what truly set me apart.
Lean into what makes you YOU - your unique traits might be the key to your greatest successes.
If you’re just starting out or pivoting into project management, remember that mistakes are part of the process, and growth comes with time.
Hope you enjoy the December time!
Stay warm!
With Love,
Violeta
